Dr. Mary Obiyo, DNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC
Dr. Mary Obiyo is a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in the clinical field and extensive knowledge in both psychiatric and primary healthcare. As the Lead Provider and Chief Executive Officer of Essential Health Group LLC, she is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care that addresses the whole person-both mental and physical health- serving patients throughout Bowie /Upper Marlboro in Maryland and surrounding communities.
Dr. Obiyo’s professional journey began in Nigeria, where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from the College of Nursing Sciences in Umulogho, Obowo, Imo State. This early foundation in nursing established the clinical experience and dedication to patient care that have remained central to her professional career.
She later transitioned to the United States, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. She continued her advanced nursing education at South College in Knoxville, Tennessee, earning her advanced practice nursing education with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, and post-master’s certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. Her academic achievements include graduating with distinction, reflecting her dedication to academic excellence, professional growth, and lifelong learning.
Throughout her career, Dr. Obiyo has developed a unique ability to bridge primary care and behavioral health providing evidence-based and accessible psychiatric services to manage conditions like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic disorder (PTSD), mood disorders and bipolar disorder. Her clinical approach emphasizes comprehensive assessment, individualized treatment planning, medication management, prevention, health promotion, and the integration of mental and physical healthcare to support better long-term outcomes.
